Thread: Unusual motherboard problem

I am trying to install a new motherboard and processor. I believe I have a grounding problem. When the motherboard is out of the case, using the power source from the case, I have been able to access the BIOS, boot from the CD and load all the drivers, as well as access my hard drive. In other words, everything runs as it should. But, upon attaching the motherboard to the case, it wont go past POST. I am stumped. Can someone help me resolve this?

Sounds like your motherboard is being shorted. Check the case carefully. Make sure there are no wires, screws or other bits causing the board to connect directly to the case. Also make sure you've got the risers (I assume you know what they are) in the right place and are actually holding the board above the case. Let me know how it goes.

I didn't see anything that was directly coming in contact with the case. However, there was an extra riser that may have been contacting the circuitry on the board. I guess it was needed for the fried motherboard, but isn't needed for this one. I am going to try and boot again. I will check in with the results.
