Default upgrading notebook HD what chord/software

Ok guys, Im new on here. Hopefully I can get some help on this.

Dell d820 100g HD XP

I have my eye on a segate 320g HD 69 buck right.

K I have been looking for a easy /free or cheap way to clone my current HD and OS. So that when I pop the new drive in now I just have more space.

Should I get a cable of some sort and what software would be cheap and easy to replicate what I have already.

Thanks in advance

Fred

do you mean Operating system and all? or just your files?
if it's just your files, you can get a SATA/IDE to usb cable form Newegg.com for around $20. just plug it in and copy your files. (or google SATA/IDE usb Adapter for more choices)

if you mean Operating system as well, its a little harder . if you happen to have an external drive with about 100GB (probably less, depends on how full you drive is) you can use imaging software ( clonezilla or PING are both free and effective) and image the current disk to the backup drive, and then restore it to the new one.
