Default USB to IDE connection problems.

Hello All,

I am hoping you can help me.

I just got one of those USB to IDE 2.5/3.5/sata connection cables, but i am having issues in getting it to work.

I have been able to connect a SATA dvd drive to the cable, and this works all ok.

The problems i am having are trying to connect any harddrives to it.

so far i tried 3 harddrives, on two computers (one running win xp pro and the other vista)

their both come up with the same error

"USB Deviec Not Recognized"

I tried all of the harddrive in a real computer, and their all work all ok.

Link to the cable thing - USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE 2.5 3.5 INCH CABLE W/POWER ADAPTER on eBay, also, IDE, Cables Connectors, Computing (end time 15-Aug-08 12:22:21 BST)

Anyone get any ideas, or do you think i got a broken cable.

Thanks for looking and helping

Regards

Andy

i have the almost the same problem with ide to usb adapter and I'm completely confused. My 80GB WD HDD is connected via the adapter and it shows up only as a USB Device in Device Manager>Disk Drives and not in My Computer or Disk Management. When I plugged in internally, it worked out fine and loaded, and with the adapter, I can hear the harddrive running, its just not showing up in Windows. I tested it with Vista and XP and they both don't see the harrdrive in My Computer nor Disk Management.

Another problem I have is that I just purchased a 500GB WD HDD and plugged in as my second SATA drive. Meanwhile I have an IDE Maxtor 120GB prior to the new one which was working perfectly. Once I installed the new HDD, BIOS, nor Windows, sees the Maxtor 120GB anymore. And everything in BIOS is set to Master. How can I get my IDE Maxtor to work again with the 500GB installed simultaneously?
