I have a 6400+, and I'm sticking with amd to the end, but i have a few questions... Do you think my 3.2ghz dual core will be enough to hold me off on the high end games until the release of 2.8ghz phenoms. Reason is, is that I do not want to upgrade until I see a 45nm phenom @ 2.8ghz or higher. Does anyone have any idea on a release date? And will it be on am3 socket?

Just a quick note if your looking for a good system: AMD aren't in the lead for performance anymore (even games) and doubt they will match the core2 quad yorkfield 45nm on the same levels as 45nm amd - you need to compare with charts and not their numbers (ie, 2.4GHz 3800)

The CPU should be fine for some time to come. I'm not sure when AM3 is going to hit, but I don't get the feeling it's anytime soon.
Where I would focus my attention would be on the amount of RAM you have and your video card. |
