    Question when i try to install winxp home...

    im trying to install xp home upgrade, and when it starts there is a screen that says it needs another version like any previous windows version in the cdrom, am i just going to need another windows cd or is there some kind of bootleg cd i can make that will make it think theres a windows in there, the version im trying to install is windows xp home edition the upgrade cd?

    As far as I know, the only way to do what you want to do without installing a previous version of Windows is to create a slipstream image of your disc, and change the install parameters (Google). Unfortunately, with XP Home Edition I've never heard of anybody successfully building a slipstream ISO. Your options here are fairly limited...

    All you need to do is pop in any version of Windows from 98 on up, full or upgrade, just to prove you have a previous copy of Windows. You could always borrow someone's copy and just use it during the install
