i just wanted to know if a 512mb ddr 400mhz ram be compatible with my motherboard that has a max 266mhz slot. the conectors nd everyting is the same for the rams so will the ddr 400mhz be backward compatible. i assume that it shud b but it's betta to just make sure.

Yes. RAM ratings are much like speed ratings on tires. A tire rated for 150MPH works fine at 40MPH. Same with RAM types. The same time of RAM will function fine at a slower speed.
