Exclamation Windows Guru Calls for IE7 Boycott

Paul Thurrott, author of the well known WinInfo column at WindowsIT Pro, is definitely what you'd call a Microsoft enthusiast. Despite this, his allegiances are apparently not getting in the way of his ideals, as he in no uncertain terms calls for an all-out boycott of the upcoming Internet Explorer 7.0:

"My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It's a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn't secure and isn't standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding more from Microsoft and by using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Macintosh only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well."

This comes on the heels of the news that IE7 would continue to ignore established web standards by intentionally failing the ACID2 test. Thurrott has some very interesting things to say on the subject in his brief editorial, so I highly recommend stopping by to read the entire article for yourself.

Wow it must be poor if a 'Microsoft enthusiast' says to boycott it

He's going to release a review of the current beta, probably later this week. I can't image it would be favorable though.

Well, maybe it will be favorable after all. Looks like Microsoft leaned on him and now he's whistling a different tune.
