Default windows x64 professional edition

i just downloaded the trial version of windows x64 professional edition. does anyone know if its any good? do normal programs work on it? do i need to download any new drivers, i know i have to for the graphics card driver, but what about any thing else,
im asking these questions cause my computer is filled with viruses and spyware, and i wanna reformat, so i wanna know if the x64 edition is worth upgrading to (if its not too much trouble).

My Computer

Right now, there's not a lot that's been made for WindowsXP 64-bit, so you may find drivers (depending on the hardware) a bit of trouble to find. There aren't many games that are 64-bit either, although FarCry is one I can think of right off the bat. I haven't messed with it, as there's not really enough support for it yet last I knew. My personal opinion would be to try the trial version on a separate hard drive and see how that works for you. It's nice that 64-bit OS's are starting up, but right now, most people just don't need it. We don't need 64-bit yet in the majority of cases.

Besides, Windows XP will be replaced very soon by Vista which is 64-BIT. You are probably better off waiting till then. You could try a 64-BIT Linux distrobution though
