Default XP 32/64 bit vs Vista 32/64 bit

Hi all. It has been a long time since I posted on here, but I just bought the parts for my new computer last night, and I am stuck on whether or not to try out the 64 bit versions of XP/Vista or stick with the 32 bits. Everything is 64 bit capable, so that's not a problem, but I have heard so many mixed opinions on whether the 64 bit is worth it or not. I did buy 4 gigs of RAM which is one of the main reasons I am considering this.

I have read that the 64 bit versions sometimes have hardware driver issues, is it as hard as some people say it is? Or are the people who say it's not that bad more correct?

Alright, assuming that the hardware drivers aren't an issue, what about software? I am primarily going to be using this computer for gaming, so I was wondering how not totally new games (lets say 2005 on) run with the 64 bit versions? Do they have trouble?

Finally, I was wondering if running Vista was better than running XP, so that I can take advantage of DX10 (I think I'm correct in that only Vista supports DX10 but I'm not sure). This would still be applicable even if I were to run the 32 bit version I believe.

Some of this might be worded weirdly because I'm not an expert when it comes to these things, but I hope I explained myself well enough. If not, just let me know and I'll try again .

Thanks for all the help!

My Computer

Yeah I would go and install 64 bit Vista because of the ability to run more RAM. All new games the are labeled "Games For Windows " have to be tested to run on x64 to get that logo. I haven't heard of very many compatibility issues for a while. With so many new machines in best buy and and other retailers going 64 bit it may not be such a bad idea. I have heard and read online that 64-bit Vista performs on par with XP and soon im going to erase my 32 bit vista to go 64 bit in my dual boot. So if you have the RAM above 3 or 4 gigs its a good idea to switch. And if you decide to install 64 bit and you don't like it the same activation key works on both 64 and 32 bit versions.

Also never go with xp x64 because of numerous compatibility problems and the simple fact that vista x64 is more up to date and better suited for everyday use.
