right guys, i installed mandy 2007 without the boot loader finally got it to boot after a few days by adding the initrd & kernel and stuff to my boot.lst of my current install of Kubuntu, now mandy boots to login & when i login i get the error: Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation., and when "Okay" is clicked, i am then returned to login

    BTW: my current config:
    • hda1 = /boot
    • hda5 = Kubuntu /
    • hda8 = mandy /
    • hda7 = common swap
    • hda6 = common /home

Are you using the same /home for Mandriva 2007 and Kubuntu?

Do you know what I am going to say next? :p

yeah, yeah, yeah, but before when i used a common /home, i was using 3 distro's with the same /home, i only had a problem with 1 distro, besides, if you can't share a /home (i think Addis said i could share a /home) i know AT said i could share a swap)

    Edit:
    quote was from here

What I said still stands, however that assumes there won't be any incompatibilities with your software. It is possible to share /home, but factors beyond that are out of my control.

what if i use a if i use a different WM and reinstall all software i want to use into the new ditstro sharing a /home, then shange all the default settings to my own, then everything would be syncronised, correct ?

I don't quite get what you mean, but reinstalling software has nothing to do with it.

Your kde settings are all stored in a directory ~/.kde and if 2 different versions of KDE have conflicting configuration options then you'll get problems. You get what I'm saying?

    i'll try to clarify it,
yes, i understand that, but what i were using the same version of KDE (5.5.5) on two or more distros sharing a /home, or if i used different window managers (like Gnome, FVWM, Ice, CDE, XFce, Fluxbox or Enlightenment) on 2 or more distro's, i appreciate the fact that i may discover some problems (in theory)[ot]has anybody posed such a question before, probably not, yes i am a masochist[/ot]BTW: it'll be good fun if nothing else, i don't hold you responsible if this all goes tits up & my system disappears up it's own ass

If you have exactly the same versions then you shouldn't have any problems, and using different WMs would also work.
