right, i would like to upgrade my system however i would like to use as many of my existing stuff as possible, so the key item to upgrade is the mobo, i want a mobo with the ability to have DDR2 (any speed) & DDR (333) so i can use my existing RAM (and possibly add DDR2 to work with my existing RAM) & PCIe & AGP (to use my existing X2 / X4 grafx) or onboard grfx and hopefully a mobo that will take my 1.7Ghz Willamette CPU, and i will upgrade grfx, RAM & stuff when i can afford it
good luck man. Its vertualy impossible to find an agp/pci-e combo mobo but i think the ram combo is impossible. Also, the cpu is a 478pin unit and they dont make boards to support those anymore. Therfore it would be best to save and start afresh with a new amd AM2 setup. they're are the best bet for those of us who cant afford C2D. And thanx to C2D am2 processors are dirt cheap (relatively). If you do find a board thats fits your description pls PM a link to me cuz id be interested to have a look
If C2D is still a bit rich, those Pentium D's are really dropping in price...mainly so Intel can clear the stock out. Not saying you have to, but something to look into to save some cash.
well i ended up with a P4 341 (3Ghz)[ot]with 2Mb Cache[/ot]then during installation i :swear:ed up[ot]processors had pins on them not contacts[/ot]got over that and[/ot]actually broke the HS/F[ot]by thinking i knew best, and NOT reading the manual[/ot]i finally gave up & took the lot to a shop[ot]it's not easy putting a PC together when you've only got one good arm[/ot]now i'm using an old P200, 64Meg edo, 4G (ish HDD) & WinMe (no choice) forgot just how crap WinMe was a multi-tasking[ot]HDD is swapfile-ing itself to death[/ot]
