so, i DLed the Nvidea driver from here but the driver failed to install[ot]i have attached the install log[/ot]how can i id my grfx and locate the correct driver ?i've now being searching net 4 2 days from my Kubuntu Live CD, and i'm ready to throw this :swear:ing PC through the ducking window[ot]but i don't think that will fix it[/ot]hewp pwease, pwease hewp, TIA

That driver download you referenced is to a bundled driver set which includes nVidia, SIS, Intel and Via. To list your video controller through Linux, do the following:

    Code:
    lspci |grep VGA
Of course, the manual is probably right; if you have a Via northbridge, it'd be an S3 UniChrome Pro IGP. But if you're ever unsure of what drivers to use, you can always use "vesa" as a failsafe until you get it sorted out.

To install the nVidia driver on Kubuntu, you do not need to download the driver from nVidia's website. Just type sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx, then edit your xorg.conf and change the Driver to read Driver="nvidia"

...if it was an Nvidia card. Which it's not. :) But he probably already has the Unichrome drivers anyway, just needs to choose the right ones.
