i am have a refresh rate problem with Feisty every time i boot the refresh rate is too high, however if i boot recovery mode and enter sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and then reboot all is fine until the next boot[ot]i select "vesa" and the other defaults except i select the res 1280 X 1024 and 16bit colour depth, if i select 24bit colour it also works for just one boot[/ot]BTW: i'll try net, TIA

Edit: found this, will it fix the prob, will keep looking, cheers

Edit: no, my mobo is an LGA775, will keep looking

If theres a driver specifically for your unichrome chipset, then try using that instead of the generic vesa driver.

I'd recommend an NVidia card, since NVidia has much, much better drivers currently. You can get a budget NVidia card for almost nothing. For instance, an FX-series card will run you about $30/USD brand new. Not super for gaming, but will do routine 3D well, and definately won't have any problems with large/unusual resolutions or refresh rates.

I got a PC with an NVidia Geforce 5800XT running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. It runs great, and runs all effects of Beryl with ease :)
[ot]I can't get Beryl to automatically start after boot[/ot]

Have you tried using your window manager's auto-start facility to launch it when you first start up? In KDE, just throw a shortcut in ~/.kde/Autostart/[/ot]

[ot]I completely forgot about that. Thanks :)[/ot]

[ot]So Beryl is much better than Windoze Aero, because that needs at least a Geforce 6 [/ot]

To be honest, Beryl is better than Aero for more reasons than just that! For example, if you open an non-Aero application in Vista, it kills Aero in a very non-graceful manner (screen goes black, monitor loses sync, flashes several times) then goes back to the "classic" rendering motif. Jarring![/ot]
