I purchased the new motherboard/cpu combo ECS C51G-M754 with AMD Athlon 3200+. I installed everything correctly, however when I press the power button, nothing happens - it is as if it`s not plugged into the wall. I strip the components to just the power supply being plugged in into the 24 and 4 pin connectors. The same result-no power. The PSU is new, so my hope was that it was not good, the main concern being the motherboard/cpu combo. I mean it was not like I had the fan, and the hard drives spinning with no POST - in that case I would think faulty mobo, but the PSU is working. I figured perhaps the case switch was the problem, so I tested it by putting a jumper in the place were power switch LED wire goes. I turned the PSU on and I had the fan spinning for 2-3 seconds, and a beep. I guess the case switch is ok, and I sure hope the mobo is fine, since the bad one does not give you sound signals. right? This morning I took the PSU and went the store to have their guy check it. The fellow came back saying the PSU is fine! I explained him the situation, and he went back to test it again. Came back assuring me the PSU is working properly. I still can`t get the power into the mobo, however. Any suggestions?
So you said you checked the front panel switch and the fans turned on? Bad mobos most definately do give you sound signals. What I would do is jump the power again and check the manual for the signals you receive.
i don`t know what the signal was. it just showed that the case switch is fine. so the fan was spinning for couple of seconds, and there was the beep and than it went out, which i think is suppose to happen when you test the case switch...
Well, I solved that problem. The whole thing was that I connected the CPU fan to the cpu_fan connector instead of sys_fan connector. I guess the first choice, was more intuitive, but ok, I got the motherboard to work. Now I got a different problem. When I turn the system on without no memory on, I (properly) receive error messages ( ' repeating beeps in an endless loop - check for improperly seated or missing memory ' ) since there is no memory on board. when I place 1GB of memory, and hook up the hard drive what happens is that I get the welcome screen with an error display saying: ' CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded Warning! Now System is in Safe Mode. Please re-setting CPU Frequency in the CMOS setup ' The memory is properly counted , and the hard drive recognized. Also on the bottom of the screen there is that message (press F1 to continue, or press DEL to enter set up). I checked the CMOS jumper ,and it is fine, but I reset it anyway, to no avail. I tried different CMOS battery, I still get the same message. I tried entering the BIOS by pressing DEL, or boot up by pressing F1, but nothing, the welcome screen just sits there with memory count, and the detected HD. I did not mess with other jumpers on the board, but I checked them according to the manual, and they are all fine. What is this, how can I fix it?
Ya his cpu is supported by the mobo. I didnt look at the mobo or anything, but you haven't got dip switches on it for your fbs, have you?
Well, the screen says: Main Processor : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 3200+ , 1 CPUs. So, it can recognize the processor? Also I bought the combo (motherboard + processor), so it was preinstalled on the mobo. I`m not sure I understand what you mean, but no "dip switches" on the mobo (at least not the ones I do not know what they are for)... In the meantime, I tried reversing the position of the cooling fan on the CPU, as some people (internet research) says that worked for them. Not for me. I went out and got another lithium battery - the same message. I pressed all combinations on the keyboard that I can think of, in order to get to BIOS set-up - the system does not react, just the frozen screen. Let me ask you a question though. If there was something wrong with my memory stick would I be able to see all of its features on the screen (the amount of RAM, voltage, speed, etc.)? I have no idea what to do next. :O  I know the PSU is ok, because the store guy said so, and later on I was able to see that for myself, since it turned out my initial problems were not due to the bad PSU, but the cooling system being connected to the wrong connector. Also when I remove the RAM stick, the mobo starts signaling beep code corresponding to - no RAM (good thing, that`s what it`s suppose to do), but as soon as I put the memory in - no beeps (it does not do POST, if it did, then I`d be able to get into BIOS). Do I send this mobo back, and ask for replacement, or go buy another memory stick and see what happens ( I do not have a really good intuition about another stick solving the problem)?
well, my intuition was unfortunately right, the new memory stick did not change the situation. I went down to the MicroCenter and got a 512MB chip. came back , installed it, and got the all too familiar message. all of the memory information is properly displayed, however (the amount, the voltage, the speed, etc.) I can think of any more things to try...I don`t know if anyone else has more ideas, if not I`ll just pack the mobo/cpu combo and mail it back...
