    Hi guy's,

I would like to upgrade my motherboard, CPU, and mem. I currently have Sempron 3300+ 2ghz, 512 mem.

I need to upgrade as i would like to edit footage from my AVCHD camcorder.

What would you suggest I go for, intel, AMD, are there any good deals about?

    Thanks

why do you need to upgrade? that CPU can do just fine. i would maybe add some RAM. get up to about 1.5 GB ram. and a good video editing software. but i think that CPU will do good.
granted it won't be like a core2 duo or a 4 core AMD or intel.. but it will do rather nicely.
as for deal.. newegg, and pricewatch for me.

semprons are rather clumsy cheap (CRAP) cpus and frankly act as the biggest bottlekneck of all cpus, if you keep the sempron it will be the main component that will be letting you down (short of your ram). if you want to upgrade and keep the same motherboard the AM2 would be the best option (check the manual before you do this, but it should be supported). if you're serious about this AMD's in general aren't all that good with software compared to overall intel

sempron can be defined as a crippled celeron, and even a celeron isnt recommended for video editing or anything of the sort. i suggest either upgrading to AM2, or buying a new motherboard and a core2 duo (currently the king of performance and supprisingly affordable for its performance), the mhz is not important, its the cpu make and model. a P4 3000mhz extreme edition with hyperthreading cannot outperform a 2.8ghz core2 duo, it all depends on the chip and technology it uses. weird as it sounds, the ~$300 core2 duo 3.0GHz outperforms the ~$1000 core2 duo extreme edition in all sinarios!

again, sempron is not recommended and will act as a bottlekneck, you may need to upgrade the ram to at least 1gb with XP (depending on the software)

^ well stated, but what i was saying is that yes it will work.. just not fast.
i've edited tons of video on my old duron 900 with 1 gb ram. it worked just fine for me.. but i'm not you.
All in all what Dwarfer stated is totally true.

    Guy's,

Thanks for the replys. I have upgraded as the old kit was not up to editing AVCHD as it is very heavy on processor.

I have gone for new motherboard with 4 gig ram and quad intel Q6600.

Should do the trick i think.

    Thanks.

very nice choice!!! the Q6600 is very overclockable too so it will last longer in the future if you need the extra boost :D

    well done :p
