Hi, I am currently running the following: Pentium 4 Prescott 90nm HT 3.0E 3000MHz L2: 1024 FSB: 800 Socket 478 Now I cannot find much information on the internet about this processor, mainly whether or not it is dual- or single- core. However, both Device Manager and Task Manager in Windows report my computer as having 2 CPUs. Therefore, I would assume that this is a dual-core processor. I am looking to buy a new computer. However most of the dual-core machines available these days clock at much lower than 3000MHz. 2400 seems to be about the norm. Are these processors still "better" than mine? Is my processor not a "true" dual-core? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I'm pretty sure that it is NOT a Dual Core, it does not have to cores but it does do hyper threading. I don't understand what your getting at, the new dual/quad chips overclock much higher then 3GHz especially then new 45nm CPU's they go over 4GHz Btw your CPU is rather old, 90nm technology
Pimp's right, nearly, yes it's a single core CPU, but, the reason it show 2 CPUs in device manager is: HT = Hyper Threading - and HT is used to generate about 30% better performance[ot]Intels claim not mine[/ot]by using another virtual CPU, basically lying to itself & the rest of the system & the other components just believe it
Well i was close lol i knew the reason why it showed up as two cores was something to do with the hyper threading.
Hi, Your cpu is single core. It is showinng two cpus because of hyperthreading. If you want to know more about your configuration try using some hardware testing softwares like "Siso Sandra Pro".
