Is it possible to set a password for my USB Stick or My external Hardrive?

    Hi is it possible to have a password for the above please. My friend told me that there is a way but I found it quite confusing??

    Ata security mode

    A little goggle fu shows that it will work on external drive if enclosure and drive support it.

    how would that work with a external USB HDD, seems like the protection is only available during boot-up?

    I didn't save the links and this one (.pdf) is a little winded. Once the password is set to the drive it can't be accessed without it.The link above talks about doing it thru the driver.

    Wouldn't it still require you to restart the computer before you can access the HDD (sorry not had the chance to check that link yet)?.
