I bought a Microsoft Lifecam NX-6000 recently and went to try it out yesterday. I'm running Vista and therefore had to hop over to the Microsoft site to download the software. It installed fine and everything looked great. I went to have a video call on Windows Live Messenger and the mic was not functioning properly. The other person could hear the first sentence or two that I said, and then the mic was just dead. This happened repeatedly when we tried the calls again. I checked the audio levels on Control Panel, Lifecam Dashboard, and on Windows Live Messenger. After a little research, I also discovered that this particular cam has been having issues with Vista, even though the packaging brags about it being so compatible. Is that the problem, or is it something else? If it is, what do I do?
I'm not sure how to tell? Also, I got it to work on Windows Live by first starting a regular audio call and then hitting "show webcam" after that. So I suppose the problem must be with the video call feature itself.
It is possible - can you try making the video call in skype or some other IM program? - most of them are free so not to worry
Unfortunately, HIS webcam won't work with anything but Windows...Anything else makes his computer crash. But I think I'll try Skype with someone else today and see what happens.
