Hey all -- I've got a project going on and I'm looking to reduce the number of usb pins from 8 down to 7. I'm assuming there's nothing funky going on behind the scenes on the motherboard and "gnd" means literally that, so that there would be no harm in wiring two grounds together upstream. I don't have my multimeter handy to check myself. Thanks.
well traditionally it should work because GRD pins are only used as a precaution when the connection providing GRD fails, however, it is not recommended to not use a backup GRD connection, but having said that, it should be fine assuming the backup / redundant GRD connections are never needed you don't need one, just try it. I mean "ideally" you should check it, but it not likely to blow anything up, it either will work or not work
