The new Predator x34 monitor boasts a 3440 x 1440 resolution and 100Hz refresh rate boost. It features HDMI and Displayport hookup capability. However, I understand each can only support resolutions and refresh rates so high and the higher the resolution, the lower the refresh rate (and vice versa).

I did research on both HDMI and displayport technologies and associated bandwidths supported by each, but I'm unclear on what maximum refresh rates I can actually achieve at 3440 x 1440 resolution with a high speed HDMI cable. The monitor would only be worth the cost to me if I could actually get both 3440 x 1440 resolution AND 100Hz refresh rate out of it simultaneously (as opposed to having to decide between one or the other).

If it quite simply isn't possible to have both 3440 x 1440 resolution and 100Hz refresh rate, then it may be better to wait for the Z35 model which boasts a lower resolution with 144Hz native refresh rate.

On a side note, these questions make me wonder how many consumers out there are using a high resolution monitor without realizing that they're only actually seeing a lower resolution and/or refresh rate due to bandwidth bottlenecks caused by their hookup.

....almost forgot to mention, monitor size may also be a factor to take into consideration when evaluating bandwidth limitations. The X34 is a 34" monitor. So my original question should be revised to include this detail:

Does anyone know whether a 6-10 ft high speed HDMI or displayport cable is even capable of supporting 3440 x 1440 resolution with 100Hz refresh rate on a 34" monitor?

While 3440 x 1440 and 100Hz is thoretically barely possible with Displayport 1.2, I see no reason to go with that kind of old tech. So instead pick something that supports Displayport 1.3 or go with lower resolution.

The Predator X34 just came out this month. It shouldn't be old technology. Newegg says it uses HDMI or Displayport hookup, but does not specify the version of HDMI or displayport. Since it's a newly release monitor, I'm inclined to assume it supports whatever the latest technology is for HDMI and displayport. Do you disagree?

All of the displayport v1.3 search results show displayport to HDMI cables... shouldn't it be displayport to displayport? This is from my video card to my monitor.

AMD just released Radeon 380X. It is old technology just like every Nvidia and AMD video card. 28nm process made debut about 4 years ago...

Because Acer is very reluctantly giving full specs, I looked elsewhere http://www.scan.co.uk/products/34-a...r-ips-60hz-3440x1440-4ms-10001-tilt-dp-hdmi-u

So it seems to be Displayport 1.2 and HDMI 1.4, both old techonlogy. So I disagree, recommend to skip that crap and wait for better monitors with Freesync and DP 1.3.
