im planning on upgrading to athlon 64's. whats the difference in the new am2 and the old sokcet 939. which is better on a 939 athlon 3500, venice or manchester core. i know if i get the new am2, it will give me room to upgradde in the futre but can sum1 reccomend me sumthing. im on a budget really and just need the processor and mobo.
[link=http://www.hardwareforums.com/socket-am2-12060/]This thread will give you a good explanation[/link] Where as if you are thinking about upgrading your coputer to AM2 then you will also have to buy RAM coz it supports only DDR2 which 939 doesnt.
im on socket a at the moment and i dont aee any huge difference in the mobo and processor pricing from the 939 to am2 sockets, but i will hav to gett ddr2. wat do u think of this am2 mobo ebuyer.com - Components » Motherboards » Socket AM2 AMD Motherboards » Product details and this ebuyer.com - Components » Motherboards » Socket AM2 AMD Motherboards » Product details and 939 mobo which is really common (cud just be a consideration) ebuyer.com - Components » Motherboards » Socket 939 Athlon & 940 Opteron » Product details
Any of those boards would be good, but the AM2 Asus board you linked doesn't appear available for purchase. Outside of that cavet, any will work. If you're building a new box, AM2 would be the best choice as Socket 939 is on it's way out. If you've got a Socket 939 chip, stick with it. AM2 is not going to give you an advantage.
yeah the am2 mobo is out of stock. i'm not on 939 so am2 will be the best buy for me. if i cud get the cpu and mobo for around £130 it will be good. also cud u just reinforce on that am2 mobo, how good is it and is it a good buy.
