i have tried many times to install the os from the live cd but cant it takes way to long like 30 mins to get the install window up is there a way to install fomr the cd with out useing it as a live cd just install it to a 2nd drive from windows?? also can u dual boot from 2 diffrent hdds
Download the alternative Install CD It's a text based installer, so you don't need to boot into Ubuntu first
Even with 256mb RAM, you shouldn't have much problem installing Xubuntu from a live disc. But Ubuntu uses Gnome by default, which is... well, it's awful, and it won't run well on your hardware either.
is there a way to dual boot from to diffrent drive besides switcheing teh cables every time and on the xubuntu help on installing they tell u to use some commands is this after installing or with live and is there a non live version of xubuntu
Dual booting is very simple and you will not need to switch cables. Are both hard drives on the same channel (share a common cable)? What commands are you refering to? Installation should be very simple but I personally have never installed xubuntu. The installer should set up your dual boot options with minimal input from you.
on the ubuntu website they say u can give some command that make an ubuntu install into xubuntu i will get link later yea they are both on the first cable the hdd with windows installed is on the master spot and a hdd with music/movies is slave and i have no os on that
If you install Ubuntu and find it's too much for your computer, you can install Xubuntu on top by using the command: Code: sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
