I have an emachines T2482. The psu died so I replaced it, but evidently when the psu failed it took out the motherboard also. Or maybe the processor. My question, is it possible to determine whether the processsor failed or the motherboard or both, without replacing replacing them one at a time. I would like to know if the processor has failed before I invest in a new motherboard. Or visa versa. ashley
No beebs. I get hdd activity for several seconds. DVD spins briefly. PSU fan and proc fan work. But thats it. ashley
I quess there is no way to be sure that the proc has not failed along with the motherboard. OR, has the proc failed and not the mobo? OR, have both the proc and the mobo failed? ash
Its not possible to tell if the processor is knackered if you have a broke motherboard. I would be surprised if the processor is broken but its a matter of trying it in a good motherboard. To be honest if your motherboard is not beeping and nothing is coming up on the screen Id expect the worst. What sort of graphics card have you got? Onboard or a pci/agp one? If you have an onboard one but are using a pci/agp card id try uplugging the graphics card and only use the onboard card. See if anything changes.
thats not a good PSU, check out Big B's PSU sticky Emachines are well known for only using a PSU that will just power the system it's installed in and they also have bad front panel power switches (plugs on mobo) apart from that their very good, just replace PSU with an Antec, (cant remember wether SPll or TPll is better) and a decent power switch but yeah, there's no way to tell if mobo or CPU dead, you'll just have to swap out components - well thats how i'd do it P.S. i have an Emachine with a new PSU and power switch
