I'm going to do a reinstall of windows by formatting the partition with windows on it, and I want to save my emails in my Thunderbird inbox. But I don't understand where they are kept... I was hoping it would be just a matter of moving the folder with the emails for safe-keeping, and then, once everything is reinstalled, I would just paste all the emails back into the directory where it usually keeps them. But I can't find the location on the harddrive... help plz?
assuming your OS is XP then check this for the location of your emails[ot]you should backup this dir / folder befor you uninstal TB[/ot]
Its dead easy to backup your stuff for both thunderbird and firefox.... copy the profile folders in application data and then paste them onto your new windows install. Donkey posted the link you need to look at above but its just as easy to... START--> RUN then type in %AppData% then copy thunderbird and mozilla.
Alright, thanks guys! I actually looked into that directory before posting by looking at thunderbird's options or tools or something, and in one of the windows it said something like "local directory:" and had that directory written. But I was confused nevertheless because I had thought that every one of my emails would be stored as a single file. I have like 530 emails in my inbox, yet I don't see any folder in the TB directory that has 500+ files. Does the program somehow store all the emails in a single file?
There is a file called inbox, inbox.msf also. They are in folders (one for each account) within the mail folder. You'll know which one is your inbox with 500 odd emails! I think I have about 10 emails in my inbox and its 14mb.
