You haven't told us which motherboard you have so it's impossible to give you an answer.

Although I will say that a motherboard running a PC66 66MHz Celeron is unlikely to support the PC133 133MHz bus of the newer Pentium. Your RAM will most likely need upgrading as well because its probably PC66

Look for a PC100 100MHz Pentium 3 as you've more chance of that working. But as I said, tell us what motherboard you have first.

    Watch the voltages too.
Your PII Celeron 400mhz 66mhz FSB is 2.0v and both the 100mhz and 133mhz FSB PIII 1ghz is 1.7v.

Im afraid I dont understand a word of this! :) but if your asking what the difference is between the two CPUs.... there is no difference! They only made one Slot 1 PII Celeron 400mhz... the BX80524R400128.

Like megamaced said... "You haven't told us which motherboard you have so it's impossible to give you an answer." Its usually pretty easy to find the fastest CPU a motherboard can support. Especially with older motherboards. People tend to try and get the most out of old hardware and try everything!

Google search doesn't turn up anything for that Asus motherboard. Have you checked whether it supports a 133MHz bus?

It looks like your motherboard is incompatible with a 133MHz bus. You won't be able to install that 1GHz Pentium 3 you've seen. You will have to buy a 100 FSB P3 instead.

The board is out of a HP Pavilion 8570c. Its got the Intel 440ZX chipset.

Im in the middle of cooking tea so its hard to search properly but I think the fastest PII you can support is the 450mhz (theres only one PII 450mhz Slot1)
The fastest Celly PII is the 433mhz, again there is only one 433mhz Slot 1 PII.

In theory you might be able to get a PIII 600mhz (note its just the 600 not the 600e, 600eb, or 600b. Id stick with the PIIs which Intel say they definitely support.

I havent read through this yet.

450? not much more :( i think my friedn has one of those might ask him for it he says it will not fit because my computer is a HP and HPs have the cpu backwards or something i dont think this is true it would just make the motherboard more costly and upgrading impossible

and the computer is a HP 6460
