ok so i think this is bad but it says that my GPU core temperature is running at 74 degrees C. ambient temperature is 45 C. not sure what it means but the meter is slightly in the yellow range. now that i look at it it seems to be the video cards temp. so i dunno if this is good or bad. also can u tell me how to find my CPU temperature if this isnt it, thanks.
IMO... Doesn't look good. Not at all. Is that just after exiting a game? If not, you have to get some extra cooling on that graphics card, or get it replaced. I forget were I heard this, not sure if its true, but I think that at around 80C+, something called electromigration really kicks in, and degrades the life span of your card fast. A 6800 at 74C? Dam, mine hovers around 49 - 52 when idle... Thats stock heatsink / fan to.
Best place to look for the tempratures is in BIOS... They are more accurate then installed sotwares...
If its running at 70 odd celsius you will feel plenty of warm air around the gpu. Id get my hand in there and almost touch the card. Im guessing its got a fan on the heatsink.... touching the heatsink would be the best way to check but the fan might make this difficult. It wuold feel nothing short of HOT! Similar to a cup of tea straight from the kettle.
First off feel the card to make sure the sensor isn't going for a shit. If it turns out to be pretty hot then I'd look into getting a better heatsink/cooler combo.
Try SpeedFan and just read the readings man try this link SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer to see what is speed fan and to download it
One slight problem: Speedfan doesn't read the GPU temps by default. I thought I ran across a configuration that allowed for that, but don't quote me.
