    Hi.

I have an IBM Thinkpad with two PCMCIA slots. The bottom one has a wireless LAN card installed and works fine but when I try inserting the LAN card in the top slot, nothing happens (when I put it in the bottom slot it is automatically detected). According to Device Manager, both PCMCIA controllers are enabled and working OK.

I tried disabling and renabling the slot that I think is not working (the LAN card continued to work as normal throughout this operation) but still no success.

    Any ideas on this one?

I'm really asking 'cos I want to use the top slot for another PCMCIA card (a USB 1.1 to USB 2 adapter) at the same time as using the LAN card.

    Thanks.

Have you tried to put another card in the top slot?

    Hi.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've tried putting the Wireless LAN card in the top slot and also putting the LAN card in the bottom slot at the same time as putting a USB 2.0 Cardbus in the top slot. In both situations the top slot is simply not functioning. The LAN card and Cardbus both work in the bottom slot.

As I said earlier, Device Manager seems to say both slots are enabled and working OK. Is there anything I can do to actually test the slots? Any free download software that would test the slots somehow or get the PC to see that they aren't working? Apart from disabling and re enabling the slots (which I think I'm doing correctly), what can I do?

By the way, the Cardbus gets warm when inserted in either slot, so the top slot is at least supplying power.

    Thanks again.
