Hi. I have a broadcom internal modem. I am also on dial-up to connect to the internet. If I leave the phone cord hooked up to the computer, it keeps the phone line open even when I am not connected to the internet. If left long enough, I eventually lose a dial tone, as though the phone was left off the hook. Can this be fixed or should I get a new modem? Thank you!

That is strange. But if you would buy an external modem, you can turn it on and off. Or you might consider an ISDN connection, so you can keep the line open AND use the phone.
