Hi all, I would like to overclock my Socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice core) 2.09GHz factory speed I have a nFORCE 3 250 Motherboard, "ePoX 9NDA3I" I heard the 3000+ version of my CPu overclocks like a beast, well here I am with a 3200+ Attatched are 3 pictures, one telling you the HT options, one showing the RAM Timings, and another showing the voltage and clock speeds I can change Tell me what to try please PS: I have a coolermaster Hyper6+ CPu cooler, and my CPU runs at 37 degrees at its hottest, and at the moment I have the VCORE at 1.42 volts, apart from that I have not changed anything else in terms of clock speeds and voltages Cheers
You would have to increase the "CPU Overclock in mhz" option to increase your cpu speed. Once you have a reasonable overclock.... say, 8% its worth using something like prime95 to test the new speed. Once you have a speed which seems to be the fastest you can go without compromising stability id also then knock it back a few % just to make sure. Unfortunately you will have to do the hard work yourself.... helping someone overclock over the net is almost impossible! You just have to get to know the system you are bashing
I improved my AMD 64 3000+ from 2.0ghz to 2.35ghz. Just played around a bit to see what i could improve. Increased the voltage slightly and CPU speed by a bit. Moved the multiplier up about 3X. As already said, its hard to explain but you get a feel for what your machine can and can't do.
Right, currently running at 2.21GHz, at 39 degrees C, motherboard at 41. Memory is at 186MHz or something, I divided it by selecting DDR333 rather than AUTO which would choose 200MHz, got prime 95, will test it for an hour and post results ASAP, can somebody also tell me properly how to use PRIME 95? I am a bit of a n00b to O/C ing cheers:read:
can u break 2.35ghz. I didnt have any testing software i just played it by ear. OK maybe i used SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer to help make sure my machine temp were stable. think i increased mine over the course of about 2 weeks though.
what is HT frequency? and what should I set it to? Right now, as I am typing it is doing that Torture test and doing the one that uses loads of memory, about 900mb of my 1 gig total. I am still at 2.21GHz. Temperatures on speed fan are: Temp1: 44 Temp2: 45 Temp3: 29 HD0: 48 Core: 47 I'm guessing that's ok. I do still have a cheap power supply at the moment, so will that come into how much I can O/C ?? thanks
HT frequency is Hyper Transport frequency. you maybe dont wanna push this up to much as it can lead to system instability. I think i changed the CPU speed and the multiplier to get me so far and then just tweaked the voltages to keep me stable. Yr temps have remained normal so you can maybe look at increasing your CPU speed or knocking your multiplier up by 1. I found things started to get unstable at 4X more than the original multiplier so i left it at 3X On the PSU front, i got mine for bout 20 quid so im in the same boat Ive just had a look at my BIOS settings and mine looks so simple. Just cPU speed, Multiplier, and voltage settings. CPU speed set at 235 from 200 and multiplier at stock 10X. Must have put it back for some reason.
HyperTransport (HTT) needs to be kept around 2GHz (it will show up as 1GHz/1000MHz in programs like CPUZ). I'd leave HTT at auto, unless your motherboard fails to accomodate for this. As far as Prime 95 goes, one hour really isn't enough. You should run it for at least 12 hours, if not 24. 99% of the time, 12 hours is plenty from my experience. 1 hour doesn't always hammer the CPU long enough, and you could be missing errors that pop up after 4 or 5. With overclocking, you need to be patient and go slowly. You're venturing past the guaranteed clock speed, so take small steps and only adjust settings as needed. Don't increase the voltage unless needed, as more voltage contributes to heat output.

OK Updating you all, I am still running PRIME95 as we speak, its been on for nearly 10 hours, has not crashed yet, and not that I can see has shown any form of failure, oh, and before I did the test, I increased the CPu voltage slightly, increased the CPu speed to 2.41GHz and even with the RAM divided, it is running at its original clock speed of 200MHz. My motherboard only has a heatsink cooling one of it's "chips" and that heatsink gets very hot, I screwed on a 60mm fan last night, and its 5 degrees cooler. CPu now runs at 42-44 degrees C, keeps going up and down between the two. When 12 hours is up, I will turn PRIME95 off, and see if it has any errors. Does anybody think that if it has been successful, I can push my CPu more? Cheers all
