I have just loaded Vista Premium, the process was painless except I cant get Aero to work. I am using an A.T.I. X800 graphics card that I asume should be powerfull enough but it wont give me the 'eye candy''(no Aero). Any one have any ideas. I have downloaded lates drivers from ATI and that has done no good.

    Hi Willz,

Very basic set up at the moment, programmes loaded include office 2003, AVG, Google, Piccasa2, Printer and scanner drivers along with print server and the ATI catalyst programme, Web cam drivers. Oh and drivers for my XFi sound set up.
I do have a heap of stuff bought over from my old XP set up (games and other progs) but this stuff is outside the vista set up and not absorbed into the system yet. I have gone through Vistas help process and all the boxes are ticked in terms of making sure that Aero should run but it wont. I tried taking off the ATI drivers and installing Windows own brand but this did not work. Vistas base score for computer components is 4.3 with the graphics card scoring 5.9.

    That's about it really.

Hmmm, did you have Aero working when you first installed Windows Vista? if so, i belive its one of the applications that is causing the problem, to check to see if its an applications, stop AVG from running on boot, Google, Piccasa2 and maybe
    disable the webcam.

**Edit~~ Infact, just try disable AVG Antivirus first.

Hi Again Willz, No go, took off AVG and no change. I did say before that all my old stuff from XP is tucked away in a different folder but on the same drive, I do know that non of the programmes are running that are associated with that folder ('Old Windows') but do you think it could be having an impact. I could take it all off the c drive as I have a seperate back up. I was also running one care live on xp (american import) again this is tucked away in windows old but I wonder if it could be causing problems.

AVG has now stopped loading at start up. I knew I should have waited for Vistas problems to be ironed out before I jumped in the water, I feel like a microsoft guinea pig.
