My onboard video chip is fried(beep... bip bip bip) and the mobo won't boot up, but everything else on the board is perfectly fine. I tried adding another video card(tried AGP and PCI) and connected monitor to the newly connected(perfectly working) vid cards, and still no mobo boot.

Is there any way to fix this problem? Again, the motherboard is fine otherwise.

    Thanks,:)

How exatly did your Onboard Video fry? sounds like the motherboard is dead tbh if you cant get a screen up at all.

what exactly is the problem ?

BTW: the onboard video card may need disabling in the BIOS

This is actually a client's computer. All I know is that it was working fine, and then the video card got glitchy and eventually no longer worked. I'm pretty sure the mobo is not dead. It's just that there is no video being displayed. How did it fry? The client has no idea.

Anyone have any ideas as how to disable the onboard video from BIOS? I can't get into it because the mobo won't even boot.

Ok, what i suggest on doing is inserting the AGP or PCI card, then reset the CMOS and see if it boots up.

Incase you dont know how to reset CMOS: (there is 2 pins that should be near the CMOS battery on the board, either take the jumper off if there is one on it allready and then turn the computer on for 5 seconds, then turn it off and take the jumper off, you may find that there is no jumper on it and you need to place one on. Then turn the computer on for 5 seconds then turn it off and remove and remove or put the jumper back on)

well thats a new method to reset CMOS / BIOS to me, personally i'd just remove the battery for 10 seconds[ot]do not use metal tweesers to remove the battery[/ot]

There were unlabeled jumpers all over the motherboard and there weren't any jumpers anywhere near the battery.. so I just removed the battery instead and mobo still has the same beep code.

Tried another video card on PCI, and still didn't work. (there wasn't any AGP slots btw. it was accident that i said i tried AGP on my first post.) Tried another PSU and still same beep code. I disconnected the IDE devices and still same beep code..

This method is a bit of a crash test, but.....

Take out the battery, insert a pci graphics card, connect the monitor, put the battery back in, now...

With one hand on the power lead or psw switch, boot the pc, then pull the power lead out or psw switch off... doing this a couple of times will reset the bios, But it's not a very safe option (pulling power leads), so make sure your little sister dosen't see you.

I had an asus a7v motherboard once and it had what I call a sticky bios, and this was the only way I found to reset it without flashing the cmos.

    I know it's a bit cheesy, but hey, pc's are safe.(mostly)

    Regards, Glenn

Thanks, motorheadbiker for your hint. I had tested out the mobo with only 32mb RAM. Decided to add in a 128 stick instead. Worked just fine with that.
