DesktopLinux's Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols is reporting that Linspire and Freespire will be switching to an Ubuntu base from the current Debian base that it has had since inception. Additionally, Ubuntu will be the first distribution to have access to Linspire's Click-n-Run technology.

    From the article:
Also have a look at the technology diagram.

So, does this mean that Linspire will be a better Ubuntu? :chk:

And what says Ubuntu is better than Debian?

There just taking Kubuntu, possibly changing a few applications and adding proprietary code that Ubuntu refuses to use...

The further you move from the source the longer it will take for things to be updated!

That is exactly correct. Ubuntu is seen as an 'improved' debian but really it's just a custom configuration. I just thought I would stir the pot.

Yes, and from the diagram it looks like updates to Linspire will be much delayed. There are just too many 'layers' for it to be efficient. Adding to the confusion, there will be downstream as well as upstream development. And I thought that ubuntu and debian repositories were confusing enough!

I am actually quite excited about the news of universal CNR support. I've never used it before, but it looks like a user friendly package delivery system. A one stop shop for all your application needs, regardless of licence. It gives us the opportunity to use WMA and DVD codecs legally.

so I'm braking the law by watching/listening to the content i purchased?

yes it deals with the current legality issue's, but it doesn't deal with the source of the problem.

Homer's solution seems relevant atm, by getting drunk (purchasing the codecs) we could be making the 'problem' worse (that it will become accepted that you have to pay, and that you should pay to be able to use what you own)
