    XFX Nvidia GeForce 6800XT 256MB 256bit

    -or-

    Asus Nvidia GeForce 7600GS Silencer 256mb 128bit

The reason i ask is that they are now similar prices. I would say the the 6800xt would be better because it has the 256 memory bandwidth. But im no expert so anybody...?

Also, how is does the 7300gt run in comparison with the old 6600.. series and is it just an markating attempt to sell more 7300's or is it decent. there very chep

From what i can see the 7600GS is faster, but even an old X800XL beats both apparently.

    Get the 7600GS.

I agree with Willz - go for the 7600GS. It has a newer chipset (NV73 instead of the NV4x(?) ) technology and if some overclocking is made, you can get close to the 7600GT!

I just thought tho, apparently the 6800XT is able to overclock and perform like a 6800GT or Ultra?, and these cards beat a 7600GT, i knoe my X800XTPE beats an 7600GT so i guess a 6800GT would too.

7600GS is faster, plus nvidia 7-series cards will have slightly better shaders etc than 6-series. I'm not sure as to how much difference there is between the 6800xt and the 7600gs, if you wanted to see a real difference I'd go 7900gs. It's still not dx10, but if you wanted to get something good, I'd spend a little more and get a 7900gs for around 160ish on newgg.

I think the money would be better spent on a X1900Pro or XTX instead of a 7900GS if he were to look at a 7900GS.

by the way wilz, how are you finding vista. would you recomend it against xp pro. is it worth the money and is it supporting most things. is it buggy.

I want a personal opinion from someone who actually has it and works with it

Also, ive never used the off topic before so how does one put things in off topc boxes

thanx fot the stuuf on the cards, its hard to reason out why a 128bit card beats a 256bit card but now that ive got around that, i can see all the positives of the newer 7600gs. Im not buying one but i wanted to see what your opinions are.

The 6800XT is not quite in the same league. Yeah it's got a 256-bit interface but its also a 8 pipe card with pretty standard speeds. The 7600GS is a faster card in any test but it would be worth concidering the 6800GS or the 7600GT or a mid range X1800/1900 series card if you have a little extra cash.

Well you can unlock the pipelines in some 6800XT's and get them like a 6800GT.

lol just testing the ot thing. says alot about the leap from the 6 series to the 7 series dont you think. That, what was a kickass card, is now not in the same league as a realy budget card like the 7600gs

I dont belive something like a 7600GT or GS would beat a 6800GT, the 6800GT is still a good card, and can play all games good still.

Cards like the 6800GT, Ultra and like mine are Mid-End now.

Generally speaking the 7600GT goes pretty neck and neck with the 6800Ultra but occasionally you see oddities like this: Videos | Tom's Hardware
Apparently massive clockspeeds can really go a long way.

Thats very unusual, that cant be right, my card gets like 38FPS and there a 6800Ultra is getting like 17 :s, i thought it was like just as good as my card :s

Tom's Hardware isn't always the very most accurate source around but I think it's safe to trust this aspect to some extent. The X800XT was always a superior card as far as raw power goes. The only exceptions are pretty much anything with the Doom 3 engine. Otherwise the X800XT seems to win out. Alot depends on the engine the game is running but it's safe to say that you have a better card.

The 6800XT is just a touch above the 6600GT from what I've seen.

I'd go with whichever card is cheaper. IIRC, the 6800XT chip uses a 128-bit memory bus with faster clocks. It's more like a 6600Ultra.
