    Hi folks,

My new PC has 3 sticks of 512MB RAM inside it. I used CPU-Z to check their specs and found out that they are not the same (see attached pics). Should I replace the different stick (the one on the right pic)?

[My system: E6300, Gigabyte 945GMF-S2 board]

    TIA

You're confusing types and speeds. You have different speeds, and that's fine. RAM speed ratings (PC3200, PC4000, etc) are like tire speed ratings: they indicate the maximum speed they are guaranteed to operate at. A tire may be rated for 150MPH, yet will run fine at 40MPH. The same concept applies to RAM.

Now, for RAM types, no, you can't mix them. You have DDR2, so you cannot use DDR, SDR SDRAM (commonly just called SDRAM), or RDRAM. First, the physical design of the RAM sticks make them incompatible with each other. Secondly, the signaling, and pins are different for each type, so even if you managed to fit them into a different RAM type slot and it didn't burn up, it still wouldn't work.

    Thank You Big B.

This leads to my next question: In the specs paper I got from the shop they wrote "DDR2 533". Does that fit with what they actually gave me?

    TIA

This might help give a bigger explaination, but yes, that checks out.

Can you really mix different speed?

    Are you sure about that?
