    Hey Guys,

I completed building my new PC today, and gave it a test run by downloading the Supreme Commander demo and Sid Mierer's Railroads. My PC has these specs:

Consair 1 gig DDR 2 ram
    ATI 520 MB video card
    Intel Pentium D 2.66mhz processor

I was shocked to see the games performed very sluggish at 1024 resolution with medium settings.

My specs are well above the recommended ones on these game boxes so why does it perform piss poor? Should I upgrade to 2 gigs of ram, or is the Pentium D just a bad processor?

Have you opted for Core Duo?

Could you post more specific info about your PC? ie. all HW and what software you're running.

Pentium D CPUs aren't suitable for games, these are just basic workstations CPUs (I've used a PC with 2 GB of RAM and a Pentium D of 3.2 Ghz and it went very slow). I would recommend to use an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU or an AMD Athlon 64.

This is surprising though. The recommended requirements on Supreme Commander are 3.0 processor or higher. I would think a 2.66 Pentium D is faster than a single core 3.0 processor.

    My system specs are:

    OS: Windows XP SP2
    motherboard: intel DP965LT
Video - ASUS AtI EAX1300PRO PCI Express
Consair 187 pin DDR 2 1 Gig Ram

You can't compare different CPUs by their number in Ghz. There are several other factors, like the chache. An Intel Core Duo of 2 Ghz performs just like a P4 of 3.2-3.5 Ghz.

Bottom line, the game is mad nuts, its pushes my system past what it can do, and i have a beast, plainly put, supreme commander is completely crazy.

    To pradeepmahato:

Well, what can I say, my old GeForce 4 MMX440 had a similar problem with FarCry, only that the textures were crippled. It's kinda system-configuration thing really. Try to paly around with different system/driver/game settings. It couldn't be a faulty piece of hardware, if other games run fine...

I for one Definatly think its the Pentium d that holds any system back, because i also play supcom with pentium d 3.4ghz and 2gb ddr2 ram and a x1950 pro 512, and mine is also slow so.

What specific video card do you have? The amount of memory it has doesn't mean nearly as much as the graphics chip on the card.
