Hi all. I will be purchasing the ATI X1950XTX video card, which only has DVI outputs. I will need to purchase a new monitor to go with it. What specifications should I look for in a new LCD monitor (other than the fact that it's DVI)? I don't want to buy a monitor only to find that it's really blurry (ghosts) when I play Halflife II. Thanks.
The days of blurry LCD monitors are gone. Any screen with 12ms or lower will not blur. Most current screens can go as low as 2ms with an average of about 6ms. Manufacturers are now trying to perfect the colour limits of LCD technology and have stopped focusing on response time (for the most part). Samsung and LG are making some excellent screens these days.
yeah, get a monitor with a low MS; heres a link on LCDs for Gamers (last edited in 2005, but still useful info.)... LCD monitors for gamers - CNET reviews OR you can just forget about purchasing a new video card and Monitor and just get an Xbox 360 like I did :chk:
Don't worry too much man. You can get a dvi to vga adaptor for like $3 which doesn't hurt quality at all so that's one route if you're still kicking around with an old CRT warhorse like me or a less recent LCD. If you do want to upgrade though keep what others have said in mind and look for brightness and contrast ratings with values of around 300/500 or above respectively. Widescreen is great if you watch a lot of movies but generally games aren't formated for that so you'd be best with a 4:3 display there.
