    I have an AMD 4400 x2 2 gigs RAM 430W PSU.

If my machine has been running for a little while and I am running a lot of programs at once I start to get very laggy choppy performance. The mouse doesn't move smooth at all. Its like the system is about to freeze but never does.

When I say a lot of programs let me list them for yall. Running like 7 tabs in firefox. Running utorrent downloading 2 torrents. Watching an .AVI file. And using WinRAR to archive a file.

Now it is not only when running these programs. It happens when I run other programs. Now when I check memory and cpu usage none of them are to high to show what could be causing the bad performance.

I know I have the latest bios and all the latest drivers for hardware.

And I really have no idea what could possibly causing this lag. Please help if you can and thanks for the help in advance.

well wat the cpu does is that it gives each application/program time to run, and this time is distributed to each of the process according to the preference...
if u r running a lot of programs simultaneously then it is obvious that cpu will give cycle to each process thus making the performance a bit low...this also depends on the RAM size of ur system...

Yes I do understand that. But I do suppose then the issue points to my CPU or my AMD dual core drivers. I need to install Vista see if the same thing happens. I honestly don't feel that what I am running should bog the system down like such.

But something is seriously wrong.. Sometimes the computer just stops doing everything and freezes up for 10 seconds then starts again right where it left off like it didnt even lock at all.

Try to catch the process that is hogging the cpu time in the act, keep task manager open (i do constantly) and as soon as this problem occurs see if something is taking 99% (order the processes in decending order - click on the tab twice)

    What are your CPU temps?
Have you defragged your hard drive(s)?

What's the brand and model of your power supply?
