I recently purchased a second hand laptop, sony vaio, from a guy at a boot sale. Only to get it home and find it password protected!! silly me I know, should have checked this out first, but hey. Does anyone know how I can get round this as without the password it's useless. All I have is the hardware, mains cable and DVD drive....HELP!!!!!!! Please!!!!:(

Do you mean a Windows password? If so, then hold F8 while booting. In the list choose Safe Mode. At the logon screen select the account Administrator (if it isn't password protected). Then go to Control panel > User Accounts. Now remove all existing accounts (except administrator). Then create new user accounts and reboot.

Sure, you're welcome. If the administrator password is also protected, then you'll need to reinstall windows.
