i have intel 946GZIS.. and 512 mb DDR2 667mhz... i wanna knw if i can do dual channeling on my mobo..??cos i have read tat dual channeling requires 4 Ram slots... but i have only 2 slots on my board...but inside my memory configurations in my bios its listed lik dis (approx)
    DIMM 0
    Slot A - 512 mb
    Slot B - none

    DIMM 1
    Slot A - none
    Slot B - none
When i have only 2 slots on my mobo how can it show 4 slots inside the bios memory configurations???and how to dual channel in this motherboard??

I'm not sure where you read that dual-channel memory requires 4 slots, but that is incorrect.

Chipsets that have a dual-channel memory feature have two memory channels, which typically allow for 2- or 4-memory slot configurations. To enable dual-channel memory you must have 2 sticks of equal size. A stick must be installed in each channel so that both channels are identical.

From the looks of it, the BIOS is listing the banks as slots. A bank, as far as DIMM slots are concerned, refer to the sides of the DIMM PCB (Printed Circuit Board) that can have memory chips. There's only two banks per DIMM PCB and slot. The stick you have in there right now appears to be single-sided.

To enable dual-channel, you just need to add a second stick of 512MB of DDR2. For best results, you'll want to match it to the stick you have in there now with a second stick of DDR2-667.

That would depend on what you're doing. Lots of gaming and video editing would be better served with more RAM than dual-channel. If you simply e-mail, websurf, and do office apps, adding more RAM won't do much for performance past 512MB under WinXP, so after 1GB, you'd just be throwing money away.

Games and video editing love RAM, regardless of dual or single-channel configuration. You'd get more improvement by allowing for more room here, because if they don't get enough RAM to run with, they'll just grab part of the pagefile, which is simply a certain amount of space set aside to act like RAM. RAM is much faster than a hard drive, so having to access is not desirable.
