i have few questions regrading intel processors...does core 2 duo really perform better than intel pentium D(dual core)?? for an example... 920 65-nm technology 2x2 MB L2 2.80 GHz 800 MHz ----> dis is dual core rite?? and E6300 65 nm 2MB L2 1.86 GHz 1066 MHz the former specified processor had 2x2mb L2 cache,,, but the latter core 2 duo processor has only 2mb L2 cache... is it 2mb per core?? or 2x2mb like that of the 920 dual core processor?? if the L2 cache on both 920 dual core processor and E6300 core 2 duo processor are the same then wil there be any performance difference.. i knw that the FSB 800mhz in former and in the latter its 1066mhz wil there be any actual performance variations?? and which one can i buy?? 920 dual core or E6300?
What Intel did with Core 2 is implement a single, dynamic L2 cache. If one core needs 1.8MB and core 2 only needs .2MB, it can happen. This is in contrast to the Pentium D dual-cores which had a separate L2 cache for each core. If the processor could have used more cache, it wouldn't be able to use the other core's L2 cache, even if it weren't using it. Core 2 Duo beats the Athlon64, which was slapping the Pentium silly. Unless, the 920 is really cheap (like $75 or less), Core 2 all the way. The Core 2 Duo is a new processor line from the ground up. It does have some concepts in use from the Pentium 4/D era in relation to the FSB, but it's built around performance rather than scaling clockspeeds. The lowly E6300's performance is at least that of the Pentium Extreme Edition 965. We're talking about a CPU running at 1.86GHz hanging with or beating a processor running at 3.73GHz, around twice the clock speed. The 965 was Intel's fastest CPU in the Pentium era. The low-end CPU shows that level of performance in that case, so I think that by now it's pretty apparent that the Core 2 is much better.
rite now i am using 1.8ghz core 2 duo E4300 on 946GZIS mobo... and now i am planning to purchase intel 965RY mobo with core 2 duo 1.86ghz E6300. wil there be any significant change in the performance?? i mean any noticable change in the performance? i suppose the size of the L2 cache is same on E4300 and E6300 but nly the FSB varies... so wil it make any much difference? or is there any procesors in AMD which wud perform really better when compared to E6300?
I am not very familiar with these but I can give you a reference for comparison of the two processors. This E4300 review seems to indicate you won't see much of a difference. You'll probably gain a little extra because you're moving from the 945 to the 965 chipset, but the gain is pretty minute.
thanks for ur sugesstions... n finally today i got intel 965RY and core2 duo E6320 1.86 processor with 4mb L2 cache ..
