Couldn't find a USB forum, so apologies it I've over looked it.

I've been having rather huge problems with all the USB ports on my laptop (HP Pavilion DV8000). Any device I plug in is coming up as "Unknown Device" with no drivers installed. Even if the device has been pre-installed, it is no longer working. It's rather annoying as I have a lot in information (both work and personal) on a USB hard drive, so I'd like to be able to get back into business as soon as possible!
The last think I remember installing/using was a Samsung phone USB driver suite.

I've tried rolling back to before the installation, tried manually installing the drivers and un-installing/re-installing everything down the the root USB hub.

Any help is appreciated, if you need any more information, please feel free to ask.

did you try the device on another computer ? -does it work at there?
    - did you try uninstall the phone software ? -eventually try contacting HP for support, as you propably still have support on that pc of yours. what kind of USB do you run, onboard or via a slot card ? -did you try another USB card ?

USB device works fine with my other computer.
Phone software was un-installed before I rolled back.
    HP support are completely useless.
USB is on board, 2 hubs, each with 2 ports, neither are working.

Thank you for your time again.

ok, so do you have an oppotunity to try pcmcia USB card ? -to see if that works out?

    - if you do have garantee left on the machine, HP must replace the broken parts.

Claiming on warranty is a nightmare, took nearly 4 weeks last time, so I'd rather try and fix the problem myself. I'm guessing it's software related as I do look after my laptop.
I don't know of anyone's PCMCIA card that i can borrow, but may go out and buy one to see if that worked sometime this week (Bank holidays are great unless you want to go out to buy something!)
