i had this 200gb ata hd laying around and wanted to use it i plugged it in and drive was unformatted . so i reformatted and installed xp oem on it and when it was done noticed it was only reading 32 gb any ideas on how i could cure this ?

i have xp mce sp2 so i dont think that the problem i have never had a problem seeing hd size my main hd is 114gb sata

i think it may have been magneticly damaged mabey .

is there a software that can recover hds?

first of all...Go to Disk Management(Right Click MyComputer > Manage >Disk Management) or the right hand side bottom of that window, can you see any unallocated space or smthing like that???

Second thing, if you drive has bad sectors then use chkdsk function to check disk... Go to Rum > type cmd and press enter > chkdsk > press y when promted to do it during startup...Then Restart your computer and your computer will check the disk autmatically before window boots... ;)

Are the jumpers on the harddisk set to a capacity limit?
