I recently noticed that i am in desperate need of a new computer. I decided price was not going to be an option... so i got the very best of everything lined up until i got to the processors. I realized i do not need a quad core soley for gaming so i steped down to intel duo extreme core 2 3.0 ghz for $1,000. Then i noticed AMD duo core 3.0 Ghz (6000+) for about $250. Knowing that AMD is best for overclocking i imediatly thought what in the world!?!? so i looked more into Intel and found the E6700 2.66Ghz processor for only about $250, so why is their such a huge jump in price for the 3.0 intel processor? which one am i better of getting? it seems to me the AMD (but i have only used AMD for the bast 6 years so its all i really know) PLZ HELPZORZ ME!!! I have also noticed that the better MOBO's come w/ intel, well the memory slots anyways will support PC 9600 or better where AMD's MOBO will not.

I would recommend an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. And if you really got some extra money, you might consider the Intel Core 2 Duo extreme.

Agreed. Right now, Core 2 Duo is very nice, and overclock very well. 50% OC's seem to be pretty common from what I've picked up. Add to that that Core 2 is whipping AMD's best right now, it's really a no brainer.

Now, while a nice CPU is important, don't blow your wad on the CPU. Even an E6300 or E6400 is more than enough for gaming, so unless you've really got a lot of cash burning a hole in your pocket, I wouldn't advise buying an Extreme chip. Make sure to pair it up with a nice video card, though, as that's where a lot of the emphasis is.
