I've just scooped up a new work computer and it is a 2.2 Gig Intel Celeron. Has 128 megs of ram not to mention it uses 8 megs for onboard video.. now.. heres my question. The current mobo is ECS M935D 2.0 and How could I find out exactly which ram to buy.. I am guessing pc3200 since it can downgrade itself if needed right? my Comp prolly uses pc2700 or pc2100? Any ideas? Ive tried using Belarc but it does not give enough detail on system memory. Any Ideas would be appreciated.. BTW I am brand new and this is my first post. HI EVERYBODY!! :chk:
Welcome to hardwareforums provoke22! Hello, Have you taken the RAM out of the motherboard to see if it says what speed it is?
LOL as stupid as it may sound, I currently am at work and I do not have a screwdriver. Hmmm, any other way to download a prog maybe and scan my system? I've been able to do it before I just do not remember how.
I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but you are going to need to open the case anyway (to put the new ram in) so i would call it a worthwhile purchase
Yeah I will prolly just do that, In the meantime I guess ill shop around for a half/decent video card since this is my backup computer. Hehe Thank you for all your help Importance, I appreciate the advice.
yeah, PCWizard can look at existing RAM[ot]& tell you the speed[/ot] and the speed RAM your mobo can take
hey.. so it says the ram in my system is 266ddr pc2100.. but it says my system runs on pc2500? so do i buy pc2100 or pc2700? =)
well your system will run RAM at the speed of the slowest module installed, so if you buy PC2700 although it is capably of running @ 333Mhz, 333Mhz RAM will run quite happily @ the slower speed of 266Mhz, just remember the next time you upgrade, remove the 2 X 512 DDR266 & buy DDR333[ot]one think you seem to have missed: CAS Latency[/ot]BTW: PCWizard will also tell yo the CAS Latency Edit: a good analogy is a car tyre, it may be ratted at a maximum of 120Mph however it will run quite happily at 40Mph
sorry the reply is long, but RAM is very complicated, and i dont think you understand it correctly so yes PC2700 : DDR333[ot]look at B's DDR speed cheat sheet[/ot]
degrade isnt really the word. Its backwards compatible though. DDR333 just runs at a max of 333, no more. So running it at a slower speed wont do any harm.
