computer clock

    hi anyone know why the time clock on my computer toolbar keeps changing the time i don`t mean by the second or minute it can actually be say 3-o-clock but the time on my commy can be out by hours any ideas thanks:doh: :doh:

    The time is managed by a small battery on the motherboard (looks just like the battery in a watch). It powers a circuit managing the time and holding the BIOS settings. If that battery dies, the system can't remember the time or BIOS settings.

    would i be able to get a new battery from any computer shop or only from computer manufacturer thanks for your help much appreciated

    You can buy a battery from any computer shop, and even from supermarket. Just take care to select the same power up(actually same voltage) battery. Just remove the old one and replace the new one. Most probably you can work on after that. If your main board doesn't load the BIOS settings just use the main board driver CD.

    you can buy them @ most computer shops for about £4

    BTW: check out this thread
    [ot]it explains how to reset the BIOS, and describes how to safely remove the battery, just replace the old battery with a new one[/ot]
