Hi guys, I am going to get the Core 2 Duo E4300 , which only needs a 333FSB to get 3GHz out of it so I don't really need DDR2 800, so I should be Ok with DDR2 667 shouldn't I? Anway is it worth paying nearly double the money for OCZ DDR2 800, or get Kingston DDR2 667 for almost half the price? These are the choices: 1.) Kingston 2GB KIT (2X1GB) DDR2 667MHz - £48.40: Follow Me... OR 2.) OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz - £80.14: Follow Me... So which should I get, baring in mind I am on a budget and I am already getting the Core 2 Duo E4300, Asus P5N-E SLI, BFG 8800GTS OC 320MB and an Antec Nine Hundred Case. Do I really need to spend almost double the money on the OCZ memory when I don't really need it for overclocking because the E4300 has a high multiplier and so can reach 3GHz with a 333FSB? What willl the performance differences be having DDR2 800 or DDR2 667? Thanks.
Since you're really limited to overclocking by the FSB, the PC6400 stuff would benefit you more if you want to go much past PC5300 speeds. Having said that, if your comfortable with that, the extra jump in cost probably isn't worth it for you. The only other thing that might be an additional advantage is the PC6400 stuff running at tighter timings than the PC5300 stuff at PC5300 speeds. However, I'm getting the picture that you're not an absolute freak when it comes to fine tuning an overclock. In that case, the OCZ PC6400 is probably not going to be worth it to you.
Thats right, I am not really bothered about taking it to the max, i just want to get descent speeds and leave it there e.g 3GHz. Thanks for your help.
