    Not sure what happened. Think outlet might of shorted but the drive is loaded and detected makes the sound and get safely remove hardware like always but i don't have a drive letter anymore to access it?

    Anyway to access it? I have over 150gb of data on drive i really don't want to lose.

    Note that i connect my drive to another computer and same thing.. Like everything works except no drive letter to access it.

    You should provide more details of the OS, hardware etc also whether it used to work, what changed, etc. etc.

    I'm on Windows XP right now and it always worked fine but was moving it around and plugged it into another outlet and not sure if that hurt the drive.

    It gets detected and everything just no drive letter.

    Also plugged it into another computer Vista to check and did same thing.

    I'm struggling with "...detected and everything..."
    Do you mean you can use the drive, the data is OK...so the only issue is the drive letter is not on the screen? (again it is a presumption that it is missing in "my computer" but you leave us to guess this.)

    I think you need to provide a clearer explanation of the situation before/after.

    presumably your having problems with a USB pen, as henry said can you see the device in question, not in my computer but in device manager & are there any yellow exclamation marks on the device, also check the events manager for any errors

    Edit: BTW: did anything on the system change between it working & not working

    This is my problem. The USB works fine, detects my mp3 and stuff. Problem is the drive overheated and ever since the drive letter for it won't show up in "My Computer"

    I can hear the drive working, it beeps just like normal but nada in "My computer" to access it.

    Take a look at this. http://img176.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=41561_Snap1_122_387lo.jpg

    I think the boot sector of drive were messed up and now have to figure out how to fix it because i really the stuff on that drive back.

    See if it pops up in Disk Management:
    (Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Computer Management)

    DM is a branch under Storage. If you can see it here, you can right-click on the drive for a list of options. One will be to assign/reassign a drive letter.

    Look at picture i included in last post. I need a way to fix boot sector. I could probably make the drive work right now but I am trying to save the data on it.
