    Hi everyone,
I'm about to buy a computer with an AMD duron 2200 cpu and Mercury Motherboard but I'm having doubts about the durability and stability of these products. So if anyone here has some informaiton about these products( especially known defects and problems) please tell me b/c I don't want to purchase a pc that fails now and then.

    Thanx

First, there is no Duron 2200. An Athlon 2200+, yes, but no Duron 2200+. The Duron line is still in MHz/GHz, and only goes as high (at stock speeds) as 1.8GHz. I've never heard of Mercury Motherboards before either.

If they have a website, I'd run through it over @ Reseller Ratings.

are you buying it from your local shop? what will be the specs of the PC and the cost?

or have you even considered building your own system?

I'm about to buy the assembled pc from a local shop. It's a pc with an AMD duron 2.2GHz cpu, 256MB DDRAM and the other standard parts. The motherboard and the cpu are integragted. They told me that the motherboard is also AMD but I think it's mercury.

Sorry, I forgot one more thing. Windows XP reports the cpu speed as 850MHz rather than 2.2GHz. I did some searching on the net and I found out that the cpu is overclocked by the manufacturers and that there is no problem. Is it true and is it okay?

    thanx

It's not true. sounds like a bogus board. Motherboard and cpu are integrated?! I've never heard of that before and I think it's bogus as well. I would step away from that. I would strongly recommend to walk away. Very strongly.
A cpu wont overclock from 850 to 2.2ghz and still work/be stable.

    I think they're lying and I wouldn't go there!!!!!!!!

AMD doesn't make motherboards they're lying!!!!!!!
Present your concerns to them and write down the info of our posts and take it to them!!!
Mercury I believe is contracted with Hewlette Packard. DONT BUY IT!!!!

LIES THEY TELL YOU!!!!! LIES ALL LIES!!!!!!!

    Here's what you should do

    1) collect all the data and concerns in out post like, durons aren't made at 2200ghz. CPU's arent integrated. ETC.

    2) write it all down on a piece of paper and hand it to one of the people working at the store or that are showing you the product.

    3) have them explain.

    4) Dont buy it or hint buying it without an explanation!!!!

Like I said, the highest the Duron's go is 1.8GHz. There is no 2.2GHz chip unless it's been overclocked.

Unless it's a Via C3 CPU, it's not integrated. The only motherboards AMD might make would be reference motherboards, but these aren't sold. AMD has never made a consumer motherboard for purchase as far as I know.

The whole thing is very shady and I would not be buying from them. If it's not shady, the store is run by incompetent people who don't know their stuff.

I highly recommend NOT buying from this shop. Things are not correct and if you're correctly relaying their sales pitch, they're lying to you. You might want to check the store's record out at the BBB.

I've attached a .zip file with CPU-Z on it. Just extract the files to a folder and run the CPU-Z file. It will show you what your CPU speed is along with other info.

I actually saw such an assembled pc. The spec is as I said earlier. The motherboard is Mercury and the cpu is AMD 2200+ pro( atleast that is what it says in the BIOS ). The FBS of the system is 200Mhz as is the speed of the memory( which is a DDR SDRAM ). I think it's Mercury that sells the AMD cpu integrated with the main board. When the system starts it displays the name "Mercury" on the screen( while doing the hardware detection ). The system freezes from time to time just out of the blue!
And another thing, the cpu speed is reported as 1.1Ghz by windows( and also by sis sandra pro. ) but I couldn't find the speed spec in the BIOS.
