Hello there, I have a problem with choosing upgrades for my 2 year old Dell Dimensions XPS Gen 3 system. The main problem is that I don't know what my motherboard chipset is, so I don't know what hardware is compatible with it. I ran a analysis software to see what components I have, and here are the results: Motherboard Board: Dell Inc. 0K3464 Bus Clock: 800 megahertz BIOS: Dell Inc. A07 07/15/2005 Memory Modules 1024 Megabytes Installed Memory Slot 'CHANNEL A DIMM 0' has 512 MB (serial number 4509307D) Slot 'CHANNEL B DIMM 0' has 512 MB Slot 'CHANNEL A DIMM 1' is Empty Slot 'CHANNEL B DIMM 1' is Empty Processor 3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 16 kilobyte primary memory cache 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache From this, I know what my memory is and what my processor is. However, I'm not yet clear what my chipset is. The only other information the software provided about my motherboard was it's serial number. I've searched through the web with the keywords "0K3464" but I have not found any information. If anyone is capable of helping me, I would appreciate it greatly.
In my opinion, all you need is to know what motherboard you have. From that you will know - which CPUs, RAM, VGA are supported. So, first try to use Everest Home edition and if that doesn't reveal anything, try to find the docs that came with your PC. Or crack open your case if you don't care/don't have any warranty and take a look by yourself. OR, search on google for your PCs name to see if a spec is revealed (like this).
simple answer : change it all your pc is two years old but its technologic age is about 3.5 years if i don't remember it wrong you are using a 925x chipset and 3.4ghz lga cpu according to me a new pc would be much better than trying to upgrade it upgrading this system means that you wanna play games you can only consider a new directx10 gpu by means of using it in the future if i were you i would just go sell it to a place where buys second hand pc's and sell new ones so you can make a discount over on the price and don't buy any branded pc today nearly none of them using a new tech gpu and the ones using will cost you a lot if you got further needs write your purposes for a pc and we'll write you a shopping list at all
That sounds great, thank you for the help. Right now I'm still deciding what should I get as my next PC. I have always chosen my PCs according to my gaming needs. But I know soon I'll start doing a lot of Web Design projects, and I'll be using programs like MySQL, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, etc; this poses a dilema to me, but maybe you can help me solve it. I've been thinking of buying a Workstation type of PC due to my new needs, but I want to stay fresh on the gaming department. My plan was to upgrade some RAM and the GPU of my XPS system, and get a workstation for my web design needs. However, I need to know if a workstation setup (Quadro GPU, Xeon processor, etc.) is better than a normal Core 2 Duo / GeForce setup when using this applications. If it turns out that the latter is better for my Web Design applications, then I would go with it and satisfy my gaming needs with the same machine, that would be great. But I'm still not clear of the difference in power. Again, thank you for the help!
well especially photoshop kind of programmes need much more cpu power rather than gpu you might buy a conroe e6700 for these kinds of applications based on a 975 chipset with about 2 or more gigabytes of ddr2-800 ram this will make great performance upload on all applications with bringing you the chance to do something more like listening to music while working on photshop without freezing or crash gpu might not be so much problem and even mainstream products can take the lead for these applications but when we consider games you have to get a powerful card i suggest you buy a 512mb sapphire hd2900xt because it's configuration and architecture makes it available for you to get a rage performance from it people may say that hd2900xt is bad but according the tests you will see that nvidia's armory 8800gtx is nothing more better than hd2900xt just differencies of frequency and gpu ram amount give nvidia the lead as it follows i give the cards properties hd2900xt : 512mb, 512bit graphical architecture, 742mhz core/1650mhz memory speed 8800gtx : 768mb, 320bit graph. architecture, 630mhz core/2060 mhz memory speed these are the most compared cards sapphire hd2900xt and asus aquatank en8800gtx the price difference is very well seen at all and the specific structural keys are seen so don't regard ati at all yeah?
