Alright, I am building a new pc and so far haven't had much success. I am now able to at least get the system on, but no matter what drive I try to use to boot(optical or hdd) it tells me "disk boot failure". There is nothing wrong with the drives, but could anyone give a possible solution? Additional Details 35 minutes ago Also, I should mention that I do not even have Windows installed yet or cannot use any kind of disk to help. Whenever I go into the BIOS, it tells me my IDE Master is "*GMAX6*(Weird squiggly lines)h81. 34 minutes ago My IDE master is an optical cd drive and I am using a SATA for the hard drive. 33 minutes ago I have the jumpers set to master. Could any jumper settings on my motherboard be the source? 25 minutes ago Jumpers are good I think. I've got only one optical drive--CD-ROM. I've set it as the IDE Master. Also, I don't see any settings for setting SATA as master? 24 minutes ago Boot sequence is CD, then Hard Drive, then disabled all the rest except for where it says other boot device
Ok, how are you trying to boot from the CD?...You'll need a booting CD to do that, if not, the BIOS will go to boot from the HDD and as you have not any OS on it it will fail.
It is a legal, burnt copy. As for whether or not the BIOS reads it, I'm not sure. Whenever I try to boot from the cd, it tells me Media Failure, Check connection or something like that. I made sure my connections are in, but still nothing.
Go into BIOS and see what the boot priority is. If you have multiple drives, make sure that the drive with the OS on it is showing up, and if so, that it's the first hard drive in the hard drive boot order.
